June
June is finally here! The days are getting longer, the grills are going, and somewhere in Iowa a mosquito is already drawing up flight plans and looking for volunteers to donate blood.
As we step into June, we’re reminded of God’s goodness in creation. The flowers are in bloom, children home from school, and evenings seem to stretch just a little longer.
In fact June 21st is the longest day of the year, marking the start of summer. It’s as if God gives us a little extra daylight to enjoy His handiwork. Psalm 19:1 says: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
June 21st is also “Father’s Day,” giving just a little more time to honor our fathers, grandfathers, and all who serve as father figures in our lives. It’s a fitting day to celebrate those who lead, guide, and care for their families with love and faith. It’s a reminder to pause and say “thank you” for the everyday ways they reflect God’s strength, patience, and provision.
Fathers play many roles in the family… they’re often the quiet fixers of broken things (and occasionally things that weren’t broken). The grill masters who insist those burnt burgers are perfectly done. The storytellers who begin with, “When I was your age…”
Many fathers have a special gift for humor. Whether it’s a well-timed pun, a “dad joke” that makes everyone groan. These lighthearted moments are part of what makes fathers so special. Along with their humor, they offer wisdom, guidance, and a steady presence in our lives.
Scripture reminds us of the importance of fatherhood and godly leadership: “The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.” (Proverbs 20:7)
As we celebrate Father’s Day, may we honor not only earthly fathers but also remember our Heavenly Father, who is the perfect source of love, guidance, and grace.
Fathers and father figures play a vital role in nurturing faith within the home through prayer, example, and encouragement. This Father’s Day, let us not only celebrate with cards and meals, but also lift up a prayer of gratitude for the men who guide their families in faith.
Closing thoughts… June is also a busy time for many families because summer changes everybody’s routine. School lets out, vacations begin, and suddenly nobody knows what day it is anymore.
And then there’s the great spiritual struggle of summer: getting up for church when the air conditioner, the soft pillow, and “just five more minutes” are all working together against you.
Some people say, “We’ll get back into our regular church routine after summer.” That’s a little like saying, “We’ll start eating healthy again after the State Fair.” Good intentions… but very dangerous territory.
So remember to slow down, enjoy the blessings around us, and give thanks to God for the people that He has placed in our lives.
God’s blessings… Pastor B.
